Known by many as the teacher who dances on his desk, author Eugene M. Gagliano (pronounced Galiano) is a retired elementary teacher with a great sense of humor. He and his wife Carol, who have four children, seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild, live near the base of the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming.
Gene enjoys reading and writing, traveling, hiking, acrylic painting, singing tenor in the community choir, and spending hours flower and vegetable gardening.
The recipient of numerous awards, Gene’s author presentations are entertaining, informative, and inspirational. He has presented at 184 schools, at IRA, teacher, SCBWI, and library conferences, and for libraries and festivals in Wyoming, Colorado, Missouri, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Texas and Hawaii.

Gene Gagliano recently received the Wyoming Historical Society Award for, Publications: Fiction, for his book Ice Cave Mystery, in recognition of outstanding accomplishments and contributions to Wyoming Legacy.
The award was presented at the 2024 annual awards luncheon. The book is the sequel to Secret of the Black Widow, a former Indian Paintbrush Award nominee.

As a former teacher his purpose is to encourage young people to read and write. He works to inspire others to understand that the writing process requires perseverance, practice of your craft, patience with yourself, persistence, and how a little bit of prayer can go along way.
Gene likes to show a brief overview of some of the books at age level, adds characterization, showing emotion by physical actions, wigs, hats and props, and even pulls out old rejection letters.
In his writing tutorials, he’ll teaches the ten step story- a format used to help students focus their writing to create a story in ten simple steps. He finds this is a great tool for helping special needs kids craft their stories.
